To curate an exhibition can be, in itself, a creative act that entails surveying the terrain of a photographer/s work and map a critical pathway through it. By applying your critical eye to the work you have selected for the exhibition, you (the curator) can discover commonalities among the selected photographs that are expressive of the human psyche, the state of nature, the cultural moment, etc.
For this project you will continue to work with the photographer you used in our previous assignment (Masters of Photography Inspired Project). You will curate an exhibition based around a specific theme of your choice using the work you created for our last project. You must include 10 images in your exhibition: 5 from the master photographer (previous project) and 5 of your own (use 5 of your photographs from the previous project). You will present your selection of thematically related images and demonstrate how these images relate to the theme of your exhibition. Your specific tasks in formulating your exhibition:
What is Due: 1) All handouts related to the project should be submitted by designated due date 2) A typed curatorial statement (1 page minimum) laying out the basic argument for your exhibition. Begin with an introductory paragraph that describe the underlying theme of the work you selected and follow with a detailed treatment of the individual images and how they relate to the theme (See description below). 3) Create an online gallery on your blog. The post title should be the name of your exhibition. In the gallery of photographs make sure their are captions under each photograph that include the photographer’s name, photographer’s nationality, date of photograph, title of photograph, and medium (Silver gelatin, digital, C-Print) 4) Exhibition Poster (designed in Photoshop) to include (hypothetical) Exhibition Title, Gallery Name & Address, Dates, Opening reception time (ect.), at least 1 image included in your exhibition. Post this to your blog. |
