Abstraction Intermediate Photography WHAT'S DUE 1 Contact Sheet - 24 Photographs 6 Best Photographs, edited in Photoshop 2 Peer Critiques (Separating From The Known) We “see” with our memory, visualizing through preconception and abstracting through rationalization. This assignment suggests that you approach a subject as if you have never seen it before, with no referential significance, removing it from everything you already know about it Choose 5 or 6 subjects, natural or man-made, indoors and outdoors. (Subjects should be large enough to fill the viewfinder, even as a detail, and still be in acceptable focus). Concentrate on the elements of pictorial composition (shape, line, texture, pattern, negative space, etc.) and correct camera exposure, shooting 24 photographs total. Spend time with each subject as you “see” it for the first time. Shoot some images as fragments, close-ups or details and some that show no recognizable reality. Refer to the Attributes of Photography and use them as tools, in addition to your skills in Frame and Composition and knowledge of Light, Shadow & Reflection. Review if necessary!
